My Background
I was born and grew up in Colorado Springs at the base of Pikes Peak and I was surrounded by a unique and beautiful landscape. I was also born at a time in which it was possible to devote many hours unsupervised to freely explore my surroundings for many hours. This opportunity to walk freely in the foothills, observing, and listening gave me an appreciation for my home. For this reason, I never take my ability to walk and roam outside in this region for granted. It was because of this freedom to move through my beautiful surroundings, that I credit my love for art and painting, color, harmony and experimentation.
I was also left alone to create art of my own at an early age. I was encouraged to draw and paint by my earliest teachers and classmates. I made some money at a young age by drawing caricatures of classmates.
I didn't receive a formal art instruction, but I attended as many classes as I was able to while raising a family and working, thanks to the support of my spouse and family.
I put away my art instruction for a time to complete my degree in electrical engineering and to follow that long career.
After my career was completed, it was imperative to me that I returnto creating art. I rediscovered the joy of bringing my vision of art to canvas or paper. I draw inspiration from past artists as well as a young and invigorating art community in Colorado Springs. I am not a realistic painter (not in my DNA) and my art can feature some exaggeration or abstraction of the subject, be it form, color or texture.
Now, I look at almost any object, or landscape or wondering cloud to inspire a painting.

Artist Statement

Artist Statement

We now live in a world in which reality can easily be altered and manipulated by machine code. It is my job as an artist to portray a vision of the world that is truly mine utilizing my own exaggerations and distortions to achieve this. My paintings might not be realistic, but they are as truthful as I can be while still presenting something for others to enjoy.
From my early days and to the present, I 0bserve that I have remained consistent by using a similar color pallet and approach to creating a visual narrative. My subjects can change from nature, landscapes and figures, but my themes of complimentary colors (warm colors / cool colors) have remained consistent throughout and I use the effect of using warm colors surrounded by cool colors to express value changes and moods in the piece. I have a strong affinity to orange.
The amount of interest that I have in my natural world, can't be contained by painting just one subject, therefore: I produce landscapes, seascapes, mountains, cars, birds, plants and cityscapes with a unifying theme of colors that define the composition.
Viewing the majority of my work shows that I frequently use Orange and Blue, Yellow and Blue, and strong value changes to describe the object. Sometimes, there is a nod to a subtle change and sometimes a nod to an artist in the past that I admire.
